The Tippi Hedren story:
Many people remember The Birds, Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960s cult film starring Nathalie “Tippi” Hedren.
During the Vietnam War, Tippi Hedren helped Vietnamese women refugees resettle in the United States. She supported a group of about 20 intelligent, hardworking women who became fascinated with her Hollywood-style nails. Tippi arranged for her manicurist and local beauty schools to train them, leading to jobs across California.
With their strong work ethic and efficiency, Vietnamese people transformed nail care from a luxury into an affordable service for everyone. Over time, more refugees joined the industry, helping it grow worldwide.
Today, around 50% of nail salons globally are owned by Vietnamese, forming a multi-billion-dollar industry that began in part thanks to Tippi Hedren.
